Ideas for my problem area - Neil
Over the last week we have been trying to put together ideas for a related business that could be started up to provide something that the SME we are studying and the local region does not provide. From this I came up with the idea.
As our word association game in last weeks lesson brought up a number of references to the male dominated Dubstep scene I came up with an idea to promote female participation in this kind of scene.
As I have previously been involved in taking workshops and teaching young people I went towards that avenue of thinking during the lesson, but from talking with Jez, who is our group mentor, it became clear that this is not such a new or innovative idea and is in many ways being done already.
What could work is creating some way of bringing female DJ’s, producers and underground artists together to create some form of space to share ideas and learn and possibly base this around an event or night or create a brand that can help to try to increase the number of female participants in the underground music scene or to help the talent that is already there to get opportunities to improve at their art form or play at nights.
It seems a viable area to think of an enterprise idea in as from doing some research I have not found anything in this area that helps to promote female artists and DJ’s. There is a night called ATTA, which may be interesting to look more into as it puts on a female artist night but in different genres.
In Bristol there is a group called dutty girl and they have created a brand around a group of female artists that play and perform different styles of urban and underground music.
It could be a good move to put together a female collective or to find female artists to manage in the West Midlands and try to promote them so that they can begin to have a foothold in the Dubstep scene and this could be achieved by putting together some form of networking event or series of workshops. I appreciate that this is a bit vague but I feel I need to explain all of these points in order to hopefully pull out some form of idea that could help as at present I am not sure of the profitability of this type of project.
